Ever since ever, women have used things they find in the kitchen to enhance their own beauty. It's not for nothing that all those old English folk songs talk about the creamy white skin of the milkmaids. I was surprised when Nick and I were served first papaya in India. When we'd finished eating our hostess took me to one side and told me she would have the papaya skins put in the bathroom for me, as if it were some treat. I must have looked at her rather blankly.
