Stillness

Thursday, 22 April 2010

Clear Blue SkyFor what seems like forever, but is probably only just over a week or so, here in London we've had days of eternal sunshine. The English weather does things like this so really it's not that surprising. But it's been very special. It's been silent.

The clouds are in their element: all fluffy and white little handfuls of cotton wool. It is as if they are enjoying having the skies to themselves without having to weave and dodge through the constant streams of planes travelling through on their way over to Heathrow miles the other side of town. The absence of those aerial snakes has also created such a stillness here on terra firma. These few ash-fuelled days of background silence have somehow calmed those little chitter-chatter thoughts.

Now the planes are back high-rise again with their distant deep drone to punctuate the cheery bird-song. Can we remember the peace and stillness of those few blessed days now? Can we keep in touch with that silence in the midst of the noise? Can we remain quiet amidst the buzz of the 21st Century?

That's our challenge.
